I have been writing since I was ten years old. I had my very first book published in early 2000 and I have nearly 40 published books now! That means I have been promoting and selling my books for over two decades. During that time, I have discovered that my most rewarding and profitable sales come from face-to-face contact. I do as many events as I can, out in the public, in front of the people, for a reason, that is where the buyers are. It has been a true joy getting to make new fans and make these connections.
However, over that time I have witnessed many things that other authors have done while at book festivals and signings that did not help them in the public eye. At times, I would say something, if it was helpful, but other times, it would be inappropriate and possibly even embarrassing for me to say something directly to them. Some authors appreciate critique and other authors hate it. Sometimes it is just not appropriate to point out what others are doing wrong, so I tend to not speak up. That is what inspired my latest book.
